Abstract

The emergence of drug-resistant bacteria poses a significant threat to global health, necessitating innovative approaches to treatment. Nanomachines, designed to target and neutralise pathogenic bacteria, represent a cutting-edge solution. These molecular machines operate at nanoscale dimensions and employ mechanisms such as mechanical drilling and targeted delivery to disrupt bacterial cell membranes. This review explores the principles, design intricacies, mechanisms, applications, and potential challenges of nanomachines in combating drug-resistant infections, with an emphasis on recent advancements and future prospects. These advancements underline the importance of integrating nanotechnology into modern antimicrobial strategies to address the escalating crisis of antimicrobial resistance.
